Q13 will be discussed in class at Fairlawn Mennonite Church on Oct. 23, 2016

13)

At what point will Christian betray Christian when things get tough?

Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. Mt. 10:21

At that time many will fall away and will betray one another and hate one another. Mt. 24:10

This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. John 15:12-13

We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. I John 3:16 (see 13-17)  (above scriptures from the nasb)

Love and Humility, or Pride?
The love and humility that enable one to think more highly of others than of ourselves (Philip. 2:3-4) is foundational for loyalty in tough times. It is they, which also empower one to serve others, even "the least of these," in present times.

Humility is a character issue. It a spiritual virtue that keeps us from elevating ourselves above others regardless of our financial status, education, intelligence, Bible knowledge, good looks, position in any setting in society including the church, and even our gender.

Pride will cause some to betray their brother. Because of their sense of superiority they will feel they are enough more important that they should live freely, - - maybe even supposedly so they can help God or others in those times.

Certain Christian belief systems are more dogmatic and aloof than others, which makes it harder for their adherents to appropriately value those of a different stripe.
Love and humility, or pride in ones’ life now, indicates what to expect in troubled times.
In class I will reference two chapters from the book “The Cosmic Battle and the American Christian,” which may be read at: www.john2031.com/books/tcb/main.html. Both are in Part VII, and they are:
Chap. 28, page 48, "Betrayal”, which I will distribute in class. See here as PDF or WORD document.

Chap. 29, page 49, "Trustworthy?" which may be read online or on the WORD document or PDF for Q13, which will also be distributed in class (slightly revised), but you can download and/or print them here.
What can you contribute to this topic? I look forward to our discussion?
