A Critical Need for Good Help
Wycliffe Associates, Nigeria, Africa!
February 1, 2012
This need was just given to me and I am exploring the possibility of putting a team together. Please contact me if you are interested. Because of the late notice we would need to move quickly to get our visas and tickets, and especially if someone needed a Passport.
| |
Who? |
Up to 10 experienced workers for plumbing, electrical, tile, cabinetry and other construction work |
| |
What? |
For the repair and renovation of a Bible translation training center |
| |
When? |
Approximately March 17 through April 1, 2012 |
| |
Where? |
Nigeria, Africa |
| |
Why? |
Because if nobody goes, how will “they” hear? |
This highly strategic project will directly impact the translation work on 80 language projects representing tens of millions of people. It needs to be done before the rainy season begins in June.
Mark Sweeting, the construction superintendent, moved there with his wife Sharon last August, expecting to have at least three work crews by now. None have come, probably because too many watch the CNN news and succumb to fear. Here are my thoughts on that.
Here is a description of the project, and some photos of areas that need to be worked on. There will be things like tearing out carpet, and painting, for non-skilled people like me.
We would be working with Mark Sweeting, and with the Daryl and Rebekah Nolt family.
| Here are some details: |
| |
* |
Total cost would be about $2-2300* per person including airline fare, travel between the airport and the translation center, food and lodging on site, a visa and so forth |
| |
* |
Yellow Fever immunization and certificate is required and typhoid and meningitis are highly recommended. |
| |
* |
Passports need to be valid through the end of 2012 |
| |
* |
Your expenses for the trip can be tax-deductible. |
| |
* |
Financial assistance is available for someone with essential skills who cannot afford the full cost themselves. |
I will coordinate details like airline tickets, visas, shots and so forth, and you wouldn't have anything to worry about. We would have a couple of meetings to share and pray together. Your part for now is to decide if you will go and to let me know! After that, pray and invite others to partner with you in this God-serving venture.
Bible translation has accelerated incredibly since the early 1990's when The Seed Company began focusing on nationals who could do the translation for their own people group, with training and oversight from Wycliffe and others. This facility is central to that effort in Nigeria. Learn more about this recent Bible translation phenomena here.
*They have a budget of $60,000, which is not quite enough for all they really need to do. We would NOT be expected to provide additional funds but they would be used well if we did.
Please contact me immediately if you are interested or know of others. I will post updates on this site as I get more information.
Yours, for the sake of those who still need to hear the Good News!
